Greek Mythology comes to us from the religious beliefs, histories, legends, and stories of the people living in Ancient Greece. The Ancient Greeks left a rich history of myths and legends. Some myths are based on historical fact, and some myths are wholly fiction. The Greek myths we know of today were originally passed down orally; that is bards, poets and singers moved between Greek Villages telling these stories about heroes, gods, wars, and monsters. The Greek Myths were eventually written down and copies of some of these writings have survived to the present day. The texts of the Greek myths became very important to later civilizations. These stories, as well as Greek civilization, had an enormous influence on art, world literature, learning, politics, government and philosophy.
